Glengad Notes

November 8, 2018

The Reserves maintained their unbeaten start in the Reserve League Cup with a 2 goals to nil win over Rasheney Res. at Cholmcille Park on Sunday morning.  Neither team created many clear cut chances in the first half and early in the second half Glengad took the lead when Ronald Mc Daid played Paul McDermott in to open the scoring with a well taken goal. On 75 mins. Shane Kelly put Daniel Mc Daid clear and he bundled the ball in from close range to clinch the points for the home side. Next week Glengad make the short journey to play Culdaff Res. and if they avoid defeat should qualify for the semi-final of the League Cup.  Best for Glengad were Stephen Mc Laughlin (D), Michael Farren and Daniel Mc Daid.

The Lotto Jackpot of 3000 euros was not won last week and this weeks Lotto prize is now a whopping 5,350 euros. The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 12 & 14 and Madeline McLaughlin, Ross Head, Glengad has won the 50 Euro prize.   The draw takes place every Wednesday in the Fisherman‘s Inn at 10 pm. This weeks Lotto coordinators are Martin McDermott and Neil F McColgan. The club would like to thank the local community for their continued support of this very important fundraiser and our very hard working local Lotto sellers.

In the afternoon the first team progressed to the 3rd round of the F.A.I. Junior Cup with a 3 goals to 1 victory over Gweedore Celtic in the Crua, in a keenly contested cup tie, where the home side had to wait until the last 10 mins. before sealing victory. In an even first half Glengad took the lead with a 20 yard strike from Terence Doherty but a spirited Gweedore team equalized almost immediately with a penalty from Corny Gallagher. The home side dominated most of the 2nd half but failed to convert any of the numerous chances created until good work on the right by Stephen Mc Laughlin teed up Terence Doherty to put Glengad into the lead and Charles Byrne sealed the win when he broke through the centre of the Gweedore defence and shot high past the keeper from 18 yards. Best for Glengad were Ruairi Doherty, Patrick McDermott, Jason Doherty, Terence Doherty and Charles Byrne.

Next week Glengad travel to Shamrock Park to play Clonmany in the semi –final of the League Cup, and we are hoping to have a sizeable support for the players who have a formidable, although not impossible, task ahead of them.

October’s monthly meeting will take place in the Community Centre at 9pm on Mon 4th, all committee members are requested to attend.

Training continues in the Crua on Wed and Fri nights at 7.30 pm.  The club would like to thank Dan Mc Laughlin(D) for his work providing floodlights on the playing pitch in the Crua for training.
