Great player turnout for hurling meeting

November 8, 2018

Another great player turnout on Friday 23rd January in clubrooms. This time it was the turn of the senior hurlers to meet their new manager Gary Cairns and more than 30 players turned out for the meeting, which is a very positive sign.

Gary has taken over the reins from Dick Loby who has decided to step down after two years managing the team. Gary was the unanimous choice of the Club Executive for the job as Gary has been a major driving force in promoting hurling within the club and as a former senior player and also as a coach with underage and minor hurlers he brings with him a great knowledge of every players strengths and capabilities and we have no doubt he will build on the work that Dick and previous senior managers have put in place.

Gary’s choice as selectors is two experienced hurlers John Trainor and Martin Keown and providing medical back up for the team will be Tracy Burns, and the Club are most grateful to Tracy for offering her services and thanks also to John and Martin for agreeing to assist Gary.

In opening the meeting on Friday night An Cathaoirleach thanked the players for such an encouraging turnout and asked that they give Gary a full commitment for the coming season. He also promised full committee backing for the new team management and that all resources at the club’s disposal will be made available for the promotion of hurling within the Club. He reminded players of their responsibility to the Club and that membership fees and insurance premium totaling 60stg must be paid by all players before the start of the season. On player injuries the club Insurance Officer Liam Sloan will continue to process any injury claims authorised by Gary or by Tracy Burns and like wise for physio treatment/ – only authorised physio treatment claims will be reimbursed by the club treasurer Cillian Keaveney.

The players welcomed the appointment of Gary and his backroom staff and look forward to their first trainingg session on Sunday 8th February in preparation for the Ulster League.
