Greenfields 1sts 4 – 0 Yeats

Greenfields 1sts picked up their first win of the season with a five-star performance at the weekend.

Their match against Sligo’s Yeats County started a slow affair, & despite the best efforts of our strikers, it remained nil-all at half time.  An injury crisis meant that Ali Ryan had to sit out the 2nd half, following a nasty blow from the ball to her elbow.

The pace accelerated in the 2nd half. The first goal was built on a square-ball pass from Mary Healy to Alma Whelan, who wasted no time slotting it in the back of the net.
Then followed an un-stoppable individual goal from Neasa McGettigan, with a reverse-stick shot from the top of the circle.
A short-corner rebound from Alma Whelan strung out the lead to three, & with the flood-gates well & truly opened, Ailbhe Finnerty found the back-board, following a great solo-run from the left, & a cracking shot into the goal.

Rachel & Cara Osbourne were Sligo’s most dangerous outlet, piling the pressure on the Greenfields defence, but sterling performances from Clodagh Greally, Sarah McDonald, Clodagh Kennedy & Gillian Heavey, to name but a few, showed what ability Greenfields 1sts have, as they picked up a much-celebrated three points.

Greenfields 3rds 2 – 0 Kinvara

Another win was notched up by Greenfields 3rds, who lined out against a very strong Kinvara side.

Kinvara did threaten, & Greenfields had to work hard for their lead, which came from Elizabeth Colleran, unattended at the back post.
Sorcha Minihan wrapped up the win, netting another goal from a corner rebound.
