(Greenfields win 6-1 on aggregate)

Greenfields advanced to the semi final of the Connacht Senior Cup with a lackluster performance against Galway seconds in this second leg clash in Dangan on Sunday.

With a lead of 5-1 coming into the game it was going to be difficult for Greenfields to feel challenged and Galway took the game to them in the first half.  Veteran Emma Glanville was their star player and she provided a continuous supply of good ball to forwards Christina Rabbitte and Ornagh Cunningham.  However Galway failed to capitalise on this possession.

Greenfields picked up the pace in the second half and made numerous attacks.  Neasa McGettigan and Mary Healy were both unlucky not to score. Halfway through the second half Greenfields were awarded a stroke against the Galway goalkeeper as a result of her stopping a fine strike by Mary Healy with her body whilst standing on the line.  Alison Ryan was wide of the mark with her shot.

With eight minutes to go it was Ryan’s strong pass from the halfway line that found Sarah McDonald.  She carried the ball to the twenty five metre line and passed to Mary Healy, who gave a quick touch onto the incoming Clodagh Grealy.
She found the unmarked Neasa McGettigan who hit the backboard with a well executed strike.

Galway almost leveled matters on the death when Emma Glanville’s long pass found Rebecca Dillon.  Her effort was cleared off the line by defender Catherine Moore.

Greenfields now advance to meet Sligo in the semi final.
