Hazzard calls on people to engage with Downpatrick Transport review

November 7, 2018

An initiative, which addresses traffic flow issues in and out of the town, must be seen as a step in the right direction.

Following discussions with Transport NI in mid-August I asked them to think carefully about the most effective means of consulting with the local community. I welcome the fact that they have taken this on board. Any scheme to improve traffic flow must be carried out in partnership with local traders and residents. There are many short, medium and long term elements to consider in this review.

Now the public has an opportunity to discuss the findings of  the traffic study, which ultimately aims is to improve movement in and out of the town centre.

Road safety issues, particularly around schools and public transport, need careful consideration by all members of the public. Importantly for businesses, retailers must look at the measures contained in this review to see if they could draw more visitors to the town centre and increase footfall.
