Heartache again for Moycullen U16 Footballers

November 7, 2018

Moycullen U16 Footballers lost out in their second County Final by the narrowest of margins against Tuam Stars in the County League Final in Headford on Sunday. The scoreline on the day was Moycullen 0-15 Tuam Stars 1-13. Moycullen started very slowly and were 7 points to 1 point down after 15 minutes. They dug deep in the remainder of the first half and went in at half time trailing by just 2points. The second half started in a similar fashion with Tuam, again, extending their lead and putting it up to the Moycullen lads, but they kept clawing back and eventually drew level at 13 points each with just 4 minutes remaining. Then disaster struck and Tuam went up and got a goal against the run of play. Moycullen again rallied and got two more fantastic points and were poised to catch Tuam but time ran out, and Tuam lifted the County League Cup. Peter Cooke was the man of the match scoring an incredible tally of 12 points. While this was the second final that they lost this year, after being piped by Salthill/Knocknacarra in the County Championship final, this group of lads can hold their heads high because they have been playing some wonderful football all season and have given their supporters and families some great days out this year. Martin Cooke, Peter Carpenter, Tom Claffey and Pat O’Toole have put some fantastic work into this team and also deserve a lot of credit for their commitment all year.
