Mayo Gaels 0-4 Davitts 2-12

Our junior team suffered a heavy defeat in their opening league game at home to Davitts on Sunday morning. A terrible start in which they conceded 1-4 in the opening five minutes always meant that this was going to be an uphill struggle. Davitts dominated the remainder of the first half adding another 1-5 with out any response from the Gaels meant that the game was effectively over as a contest at halftime with Davitts leading 0-0 to 2-9.

To their credit the Gaels produced a much improved performance in the second half when they matched Davitts score for score. The defence tightened up and a new midfield partnership of Damien Quinn and Paul Mannion gave the Gaels a foothold in the game. They registered the opening two scores of the second half through points from play from Paul McGing and Paul Mannion. Davitts responded with two points from play before a Cathal Vahey free for the Gaels. The sides swapped points from play with the Gaels effort coming from the hard working Damien Quinn. Davitts had the final say with another point from play to leave the final score 0-4 to 2-12.

The next game is away to Kiltimagh on the weekend of April 18th.
