Hockey Blitz Report

November 8, 2018

Over 90 Greenfields girls travelled to Athlone on Saturday to play in the annual blitz.
As usual it ran smoothly and a fantastic day was enjoyed by all our players.  We played teams from Athlone, Galway and Kinvara Hockey Clubs, & basked in beautiful sunshine which really helped the day go without a hitch.
The U8/U10 blitz was first on the order of business.
The U8 teams really came of age and showed very determined effort and great skill.  They were a joy to watch. This was their first outing and they really stepped up to the mark. All the U10 teams have really improved since their last trip to Athlone. Really good games were played by all teams, & again the skill levels were very high.  Every player gave their last ounce of energy in each match.

With all the U8s and U10's safely on the bus home, the U12 blitz got under way. More great hockey and determination were on display.   All teams worked really hard and without a doubt improved with every match.
As always, Underage co-ordinator Cliona Kennedy ensured the Greenfields matches ran like clock-work. She was accompanied by a great group of parents and young helpers, who worked hard with their teams to ensure a fun, sporting and safe day out.
The singing on the buses on the way home will go down in club history. Donoghue Bus Company have to be commended on their sporting drivers who had a great selection of music to make the journey home shorter.
A big THANKS to all in Athlone Hockey Club.

Next blitz will be run by Greenfields on Sat 22nd November.
