Hurling Blitz A Great Success

November 8, 2018

Edenderry GAA held a very successful underage hurling blitz last Sunday 25th October with teams from Naas (Kildare), Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin), Oranmore-Maree (Galway), Toomevara (Tipperary), Naomh Eanna (Wexford), Clarenbridge (Galway) and of course the hosts Edenderry.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the rain, and all players got plenty of hurling in six games, including five group games, and a final. As there were six teams in both under 8 and under 10, there was an ‘A’ final, a ‘B’ Final and a ‘C’ final in each age group.

After the finals all teams congregated in the hall where they lined up to receive their medals from Tullamore and Offaly Hurling star Shane Dooley. Every single player received a medal from Shane, while he also presented a shield to the captains of the winning teams in each ‘A’ Final.

Edenderry GAA would like to thank all the participating clubs, all the parents and families of the players who volunteered their help on the day, especially those who looked after the teas, soup and sandwiches which kept everyone going for the day.

The club would like to thank Martin and Aisling Keogh, and Declan McCraith who also put in Trojan work in the days leading up to the blitz. We would also like to thank Tommy and Joe O’Grady for providing the marquee, and Pat Brady and John McDonnell who were the official referees for the blitz.

And finally Edenderry GAA would like to thank Shane Dooley for making himself available for this occasion, just a week after captaining the Tullamore Senior Hurlers to their first Offaly title in 45 years.
