Important Upcoming Meetings

November 8, 2018

The Annual General Meeting of the Bride Rovers GAA Club will be held on next Wednesday night December 13th. The meeting is timed for 8pm in the Clubhouse. 2006 was a year which brought us little silverware but it was a year of progress on many fronts. In the County Senior Hurling Championship we played four games with the highlight undoubtedly being the great win over St Finbarrs. Our football season stretched over 9 months. Though defeated in Round 1 by Cloyne we battled back to make it to the East Cork Final for the fourth time in five years. The absence of Brendan Walsh was a major blow and on the day of the final we lost to Fr O’Neills after extra time.
On the inter-county front Brian Murphy was one of the stars of the Cork Hurling team which was pipped by Kilkenny for the three in a row. Brian was later selected on the G.P.A. team of the year and the All Stars Hurling team. Liam Barry and Michael Carey were both part of the backroom team with the Cork Intermediate Hurling team which won the All Ireland title. We have retained our Senior Hurling status for 2007 and are still involved at semi final stage in the Cork and Munster Senior Hurling League.
It costs a lot in financial and manpower terms to run a GAA club nowadays. New members are always welcome; the old saying that “many hands make light work” is indeed true. Too often much of the workload falls on just a few club members. On the administrative side a new Club Constitution has to be adopted by the AGM this is now the same constitution for all clubs within the GAA nationally. As well as the main Officerships we also have finance, development, field and games and coaching sub-committees. The working of all these is vital and here again new members are always most welcome.
The purpose of the Annual General Meeting is twofold. On the one hand, the year gone by, 2006 is reviewed and then plans are made for the coming season 2007. The AGM is open to all so please come along at 8pm on next Wednesday night.

Co. Convention
Tradition has been changed at County Board level this year as regards the staging of the Annual Convention of the County Board. Sunday has always been the Convention day but this year it is being held on Saturday evening December 9th commencing at 6pm.
Co. Conventions have little excitement because of the absence of motions for debate. The 2007 Co. Championship Draws will undoubtedly be the highlight of the evening.
