November 8, 2018

Our intermediate team began their 2009 O’Mara Cup campaign with a hard fought win over the local team in a blustery Kilmaine on Sunday.

The Gaels playing with the wind started brightly with points from Danny Burke and a fisted effort from Noel Quinn. Kilmaine responded with two points from play. The Gaels then had their best spell of the game with five points, a Jonathan Griffin free, Jonathan Morrin and Damien Quinn from play and two frees from Damien Quinn and Jonathan Griffin. Kilmaine finished the half strongly with three points from play to leave the halftime score 0-7 to 0-5 in favour of the Gaels.

Kilmaine started the second half strongly with a pointed free and a goal from a long ball that was fisted to the net to give them a two point lead. The Gaels responded well for the rest of the half thanks to some great defending. Points from play from Jonathan Morrin, Jonathan Griffin and Damien Quinn pushed the Gaels a point clear. The decisive score of the game came five minutes from the end when a high centre from James Fallon was fisted to the net by Jonathan Morrin. Kilmaine could only manage a point from a free in reply to leave the final score 1-10 to 1-7.
