Mayo Gaels 1-7 Moy Davitts 1-17

Our intermediate team were comprehensively beaten by Moy Davitts in the final group game of the championship in Abbey Park on Saturday evening. Moy Davitts lead from start to finish and signalled their attentions in the open four minutes when they fired 1-2. The Gaels responded in the next five minutes with points through a fifty by Niall Brett and a Danny Burke free. Moy Davitts responded with a free and two points from play. There was some brief hope for the Gaels when Adam Gallagher showed good composure to finish to the net to leave three between the sides 1-2 to 1-5. Again Moy Davitts responded with three more points before halftime with only a Danny Burke free in reply to leave the Moysiders five clear at the break 1-3 to 1-8.

Moy Davitts continued their dominance with the opening two points of the second half. The sides swapped two points each with the Gaels scores coming from a Danny Burke free and a fine score from play by Shane Lyons. The Gaels then enjoyed their best spell hitting three points on the trot with two further Danny Burke frees and a wonderful Adam Gallagher point from play to close the gap to four 1-8 to 1-12. A few silly mistakes and turnovers by the Gaels allowed Moy Davitts close out the game with five points in the closing minutes to run out 1-8 to 1-17 winners. This defeat consigns the Gaels to a relegation dogfight.
