It looked as if we were in for a good game. However, with only six minutes gone, that was to be The Gael's one and only score of the first half. Over the next ten minutes Kilmaine landed 6 fine points with the wind. the Gaels tried to counter the onslaught by bringing Johnny Morrin on for John Sloyan and deploying him at full forward, however we just couldn't get any ball up the field. Then, after twenty minutes we were dispossessed in defence and the resulting passage of play saw Kilmaine fire to the net. As the rain started to pelt down Kilmaine added two further points, one from a 45', leaving the half time score 1-0 to 1-9.
Kilmaine continued in the second half where they had left off in the first. Their superior work rate and off-the-ball running never allowed the Gaels to get into gear. Their four points in the 2nd half was only interrupted by a single Mayo Gaels point from Adam Gallagher. The final score was Mayo Gaels 1-01, Kilmaine 1-13. With the first round of the Championship looming, the Gaels need to put this game behind them and get their on-field mojo working, and quickly.
