Intermediate team end league campaign with draw. Crossmolina 0-10 Mayo Gaels 0-10

The last game of the Intermediate league saw Mayo Gaels travel to Crossmolina on Sunday afternoon.

The Gaels started the brighter despite recording three wides in the opening of play, Danny Burke soon got the ball rolling for the sides with a pointed free. Excellent play for the Gaels saw Johnny Morrin gather possession at centre field and timely slot the ball into the corner for Damien Quinn to gather and calmly slotted it over the bar with his left. The Gaels kept plodding on strong with Neil McGurrin bagging one from play and Mally Byrne opening his account for the day with a free. Crossmolina weren’t long waking up and scored three points from play in quick succession. Hard work from Bryan Adams saw him find Danny Burke who offloaded to Mally Byrne for one of the best scores of the game. Crossmolina replied with two points after which James Fallon won a free for Mally Byrne to slot over the crossbar to leave a halftime score line of Mayo Gaels 0-6 Crossmolina 0-5.

The ball was no sooner in play for the second half when the Gaels won possession and Danny Burke’s shot found reach to put the Gaels two in front. Poor play at centre field saw Crossmolina shoot for goal but thankfully the lively Paul Mannion saved the shot and knocked it out for a 45′ which they failed to convert, however Crossmolina soon found target with two points from play. Bryan Adams got the Gaels attack going again with a pointed effort, however poor refereeing in which two Gaels players were treated for injury saw Crossmolina notch up another two points, but a point from Damien Quinn narrowed the gap once again. The quiet ridiculous sending off of Mally Byrne saw the Gaels down to 14 men, but this did not deter the Gaels with Danny Burke finding form with a free. Crossmolina placed the last ball over the black spot on the stroke of full time to leave it all square on the final whistle. Full-time score line Mayo Gaels 0-10 Crossmolina 0-10.
