Irish Challenge Competition: Greenfields 3 - Raphoe 2

Greenfields 2nds are through to the quarter finals of the Irish Hockey Challenge Competition.
Previously known as the May Costley Cup, 27 teams from around the country are participating in this competition.
Being drawn against Raphoe, Greenfields made the long journey to the hills of Donegal.


In cold, wet & windy conditions, the game remained scoreless at half-time.
Sharon Kenny scored in the second half, but Raphoe replied with the equaliser.
With a one-all score at full-time, the game went to extra-time, & then golden-goal.
The score remained unchanged – so then came the strokes.
Keeper, Gillian Burke, made some outstanding saves.
Alison Ryan scored for Greenfields, but Raphoe equalised.
In the end, Liz Tighe scored the winning stroke, giving a final score of Greenfields 3 – Raphoe 2.

Coach Breen Madden & Manager Imelda Brennan, were naturally very pleased with the outcome of the match.
Greenfields 2nds now progress to Round 3, the quarter finals, on Feb. 21st.
