Double Defeat for Junior Footballers

At Ballynoe on Wednesday night under lights our junior ‘A’ football team suffered a double defeat. Our game against Carrignavar was the replay of the Junior ‘A’ Football championship semi final and also doubled up as the Junior League Final. Our inability to convert possession into scores was our undoing. We were chasing the game at all times after Carrig kicked some great points from frees and from play. A Brendan Walsh goal brought us right back into the game and when Trevor pointed we were just 2 points behind. At the start of the second half we had five great scoring chances but none were converted and this proved so costly in the end. Carrig built up a five point lead once more. We reduced this to just two and could possibly have scored at least one goal. In the end we lost by a margin of 2 points 0-9 to 1-4. We were going for our first ever 2-in-a-row in the East Cork Junior ‘A’ Football Championship having won the title in 2007. A terribly disappointing and frustrating night was made even worse by the injury to Brendan Walsh. We wish Brendan a speedy recovery. It’s been a long, long season and obviously it’s been hard to pick up the pieces after the County Final defeat. Well done to all the lads who played in the game and gave of their best on the night.
