It’s back to football championship on next Sunday after a long, long lay off. Our football championship campaign began on St Patrick’s Day when we were defeated by Cloyne. Our ‘backdoor’ game was against Glanmire and we won this game well. A quarter final meeting then in Ballynoe against Glenbower Rovers was our next appointment. A win in this game assured us of a semi final place – our fifth year in a row getting to the last four. That quarter final game was in early July and we’ve had little football since. We have been dealt a major blow for next Sunday with the absence, due to injury, of Brendan Walsh. Brendan received a serious knee injury while playing under lights last Friday night. Brendan has been one of our top footballers over the last 4 or 5 years. Our opponents next Sunday will be Carrigtwohill. They lost recently to St Catherines in the ‘B’ grade football final 3 weeks ago – with their second team so they will be a very strong side. They had a great one point win over Castlemartyr last Saturday and this recent game will surely benefit them. Sunday’s game is fixed for Watergrasshill at 3pm. It will be a big challenge for our lads to try and qualify for our fourth final in five years.
