Bride Rovers Junior A footballers successfully opened their championship campaign in Castlelyons on St. Patrick’s Day where they defeated Glanmire on a score line of 10 points to 6. The Rovers opened the scoring with two well taken points from Sean Ryan and never lost the lead over the hour, however they could have come to regret a succession of easy scoring chances where it just didn’t happen on the day. The other scores for Bride Rovers in the opening 30 minutes came from a converted 65 by Jerome O’ Driscoll and 3 points by Terry Broderick giving them a lead of 6 points to 4 at the short whistle.
The introduction of Shane Murphy, Sean O’ Brien and Michael Kearney around the half hour mark helped the Rovers remain in control during the second half with both Michael and Sean adding points and the scoring being completed with points from Brendan Walsh and Jerome O’ Driscoll.  On the day the Bride Rovers defence held strong with good performances from James Murphy, Trevor Maloney and Pa O’ Driscoll. The Rovers will be happy to have overcome this opening hurdle and can look forward to a third round game later in the summer.
