In Division 1 of the Junior Football League we defeated Fr O’Neills away by 4 points. Bride Rovers Junior 1 footballers travelled to Ballymacoda on Saturday last with the ambition of maintaining their unbeaten run in the league against an in-form Fr O’ Neills side. The Rovers began playing with the advantage of a strong wing in the first half and led on a scoreline of six points to three at the short whistle. The loss of Brendan Walsh from full back at half time left the Bride lads with a mammoth task to try and take anything from this fixture. However the balance of youth and experience, combined with a determination that they were not going to let this one go resulted in Bride Rovers coming away with the points on a scoreline of eleven points to seven.
Vincent O’ Keefe had another good hour between the posts and was well protected by a defence that was in control throughout with Shane Murphy and Jim O’ Connor excelling in the corners. Eoin O’ Flynn and Pa O’ Driscoll won more than their share of the aerial battle in the middle of the field and Jerome O’ Driscoll and Alan O’ Keefe were in superb shooting form up front. This was a well deserved win that leaves Bride Rovers top of the league with 7 points out of 8 from their opening 4 games
