Junior B Championship Semi-Final Clonmore 1-7 Kilbride 1-4

November 8, 2018

Clonmore had a strong wind advantage in the first half but in a very low scoring half, only led by 0-3 to 0-1 at the break. The second half was a close fought affair but when Kilbride scord a goal with the scores at 0-4 apiece on 45mins, they looked to be heading for victory.

With normal time up and Kilbride leading by 1-4 to 0-5, things didn’t look good but an own goal put Clonmore back in the lead. The lads put in a storming finish to score a brace of points in injury time and earn a deserved victory.

People with long memories will recall that in the 2008 Intermediate C’ship Final, Clonmore conceded an own goal to Kilbride to bring them back into the game and help them scrape a draw. So we were due a bit of luck against this opposition !

Dinny Quigley, Willie Byrne, John Connolly and the Smith brothers played very well in the backs with Dara Conway & Mike Murray putting in a trojan hour at midfield. In the forwards, Ivan Byrne, PJ Byrne and Jamie Doyle were best while subs Willie Rooney, Tom Kennedy, Ray Mulvany made a big difference on their introduction.
