Junior 'C' C'ship Semi-Final: Clonmore 3-6 Myshall 2-11

November 8, 2018

The Junior's adventure came to a battling end tonight in DCP. They made a great comeback from being 7 points down on 40mins to lead by a point on 56mins. But Myshall finished stronger to secure victory with the last 3 points of the game.

Myshall seemed to have all the luck in this game as they scored 2-1 from rebounds off the posts and Clonmore had two men sent off with black cards. Having said that, Myshall missed enough open goals in the first half to win two matches.

The first half was fairly even with Niall Humphries scoring a brilliant goal after a long solo run in the 12th minute and good points from Dale, Mick Smith and Niall again keeping us well in touch at half-time – 1-6 to 1-3.

A long range Gary Byrne point straight after the break gave cause for optimism but then Myshall scored a penalty which there was no need to concede and they added a couple of points to put them 2-8 to 1-4 ahead on 40 minutes. Things were looking bleak at this stage but then Clonmore had a 10 minute period when we bombarded the Myshall goal. First, Niall Humphries scored another cracking goal and a point, followed by a point by Collie McGrath and another great goal from the ever dangerous Adam Byrne to put Clonmore a point ahead on 56 minutes – 3-6 to 2-8. Unfortunately other chances for scores went astray and Myshall went down the field to score three unanswered points to clinch a narrow victory.

It's a pity that this team didn't make it through to the final as the guts and determination they  showed in this year's Championship brought a great sense of pride to the club. Battling back from 5 points down to beat the Cocks with only 14 men was a great achievement and they showed the same battling qualities again tonight. Well done lads – you should be very proud of yourselves.
