COUNTY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP NEALE 2:—07 V BALLINTUBBER 1—:05
>
> The Neale advanced to the quarter final after seeing off Ballintubber
> in Ballinrobe last Saturday evening. Ballintubber scored direct from
> the throw-in and shortly after were in on goal and would have scored
> but for a great block from Kieran Hughes. For the next fifteen minutes
> there was no score because of parity on both sides and also due to the
> weather conditions. On twenty minutes Clive Casey who was having a
> fine game scored an excellent point and Paddy Hopkins fired over a 21
> metre free to leave the Neale two points ahead with five first half
> minutes remaining. Approaching half time good build up involving Paddy
> Hop and Clive Casey put Niall Walsh in on goal and he duly obliged to
> leave the scores at half time 1—:03 to 0—:01 in favour of the Neale.
>
> Hoppy from the restart put over a good point and Niall Walsh and
> Declan Larkin exchanged points to leave the score 1:—05 to 0:—02 with
> twenty minutes left. The Neale introduced Simon Ryan for Paul Killeen
> however shortly afterwards a long range delivery in the Neale square
> went straight to the net to give the Ballintubber support some hope.
> Peter Cosgrave from an acute angle fired over a fine point from 30m
> metres however this was negated with a like wise Ballintubber point.
> The sides exchanged point again with the Neale’s score coming from the
> industrious Clive Casey. Ballintubber’s Richard Gibbons scored a well
> taken point to leave just a goal between the sides with five minutes
> remaining. Ballintubber were through on goal and but for Kieran Hughes
> second block of the match they would surely have scored a goal. The
> Neale broke up field and put the match beyond reach when Pat Casey
> scored the Neale’s second goal after collecting a long deliverly from
> Steven Lydon. Ballintubber had the last say when they scored a 50
> metre free to leave the final scores 2—07 to 1—05 to the Neale side.
> Great credit to both sides for a good match given the poor conditions.
>
> The Neale lined out as follows: Keith Hennelly, Kieran Hughes, Donal
> Hughes, Michael Lynagh, Padraig Mc Grath, Eoin Hughes, Brian O’
> Connell, Robert Holian, Pat Casey, Paul Killeen, Steven Lydon, Peter
> Cosgrave, Paddy Hopkins, Clive Casey and Niall Walsh. Simon Ryan for
> Paul Killeen on 42 minutes.
