Junior Footballers beat Ferbane

November 8, 2018

Edenderry juniors earned their second win of the the championship on Sunday morning with a one point win over a strong Ferbane side.

When the sides met last August, Ferbane ran out easy thirteen point winners on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-7 so the reds will be delighted with this turn around.

Dan Ryan opened the scoring after five minutes but Ferbane hit back and with three points in seven minutes to take a two point lead. In the thirteenth minute a cross field ball from John Gorman was well intercepted by Robbie Glennon who shot the ball to the back of the net.

Just one minute later, John pointed to give Edenderry a two point lead but unfortunately for the reds, that would be their last score for twenty four minutes. Ferbane responded with four points without reply and deservedly lead at the interval by two points.

Half Time:
Edenderry 1-2 0-7 Ferbane

Despite Edenderry having the wind at their backs for the second half, it was Ferbane who opened the scoring after five minutes with a pointed free. John Gorman hit his second of the game in the eight minute from a free after a foul on Peter O’Neill. Ferbane scored their ninth of the game a minute later to stretch their lead to three points. In the tenth minute Dan Ryan was on the end of some great interchanges from Robbie Glennon and Dean Cummins to point for Edenderry and leave two between the sides.

Just a minute a later Edenderry took the lead when Cillian Farrell played a great ball to Robbie Glennon, who played a one two with Peter O’Neill and it was Glennon who palmed the ball to the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Edenderry went on to kick to more points courtesy of Cillian Farrell(f) and Dan Ryan(45).

Ferbane narrowed the gap to two in the nineteenth minute but Cillian pointed in the twenty first minute to restore the three point lead.

Between the twenty fifth and twenty eight minute Edenderry surrendered their three point advantage and it looked like Ferbane would earn a share of the spoils or perhaps take all two but in the last minute of normal time, Cillian Farrell struck with his trusty left boot from forty yards to earn the home side a great win.
