Junior Footballers continue with winning ways

Edenderry Junior Footballers maintained their 100% record in Division 3 of the league with a 10 point win over Gracefield in Edenderry.

Mark Young opened the scoring with a point after a good pass from Sean Og Farrell. Gracefield then took over and scored a goal and four points without reply to take a six point lead. James Rafferty then stopped the rot for The Reds as he slotted over an excellent point. That was quickly followed by a great point from centre-forward Seanie Moore. Mark Young then scored his second point, this time from a free which was awarded for a foul on Dan Nolan. Edenderry then got on level terms when Mark Young found Sean Og Farrell with a brilliant cross-field pass, and then Sean Og beat the last defender and the goalie to score a great goal. Edenderry wing-back Dan Nolan then put his side back in front just before the halftime break.

Halftime, Edenderry 1-05 Gracefield 1-04.

At the start of the second half Derek Kelly stretched Edenderry’s lead to two points. Gracefield then scored three points in a row to go in front, before the Edenderry management freshened their side with the introduction of Stephen Abbott and David Farrelly in place of Michael Bryan and Shane Connell respectively. Sean Og Farrell levelled the scoring with a good point, after he collected a pass from his nephew Seanie Moore, who found him from a 45 metre free. Mark Young put Edenderry back in front with a point after great work from substitute Stephen Abbott. Shane Steel was then introduced at wing-back in place of Gary Blong, before Edenderry added three more points from Seanie Moore (2) and Mark Young. Edenderry then scored their second goal of the game when James Rafferty coolly rounded the ‘keeper and tapped into the empty net, after good play from Sean Og Farrell. The Edenderry management made their final substitution when Adrian Forde replaced Sean Og Farrell. The final score of the game was a goal for Edenderry, when Mark Young gave another brilliant pass, this time to Derek Kelly who palmed the ball past the Gracefield goalie.
