Junior Hurlers snatch late victory

November 8, 2018

On Friday night last Edenderry Junior Hurlers won their Round 2 game with Shamrocks in a late and dramatic fashion.

Edenderry started the game very brightly with some well taken scores early on however Shamrocks took control of the game mid way through the first half and held a slender lead at half time on a 0-08 to 1-04 scoreline.

The second half was very much a more open game with both sides attacking at will and scoring almost as frequently. Shamrocks continued to hold the lead right up until the last few minutes when Edenderry were awarded a free which Sean Og Farrell converted to leave his tally at 1-10 for the night. With the sides level, Edenderry were awarded a controversial 70 mtr free and again Sean Og took the free which came off the upright. Following a goal mouth scramble the ball was cleared downfield and Shamrocks scored a point to regain the lead.

With time up and play continuing at the referees discretion, Edenderry managed to get the ball down the field for one last attack. When the ball came across the square, Edenderry sub Colm Guing showed his composure to take possession and shot home the winning goal. Seconds later referee Noel Cooney blew his final whistle and Edenderry had emerged with two important points from the game.
