In a sunny Rhode village on Sunday morning a strong Edenderry outfit steamrolled Rhode with a blend of youth and experience. Edenderry got off to a great start with an early goal from Stephen Abbott after a good pass from Dan Ryan. Rhode were quick to reply with points from Gizmo and Kerrrigan. Further points from Rodge Hanlon, Gary Blong and John ‘Gooch’ Gorman left it 1-3 to 0-3 at the midway point. Dan Ryan then got the first of his hat trick of goals after a super pass from the veteran Babs Forde. Babs then added to the scoreboard himself with a point from play. Dan Ryan then goaled again after a move which started in the Edenderry full back line and was worked up the field through various players before Dan stuck it in the net. The halftime break came after Rhode scored a penalty to leave the scores 1-3 to 2-8

The Reds started the 2nd half brightly with a point from Rodge Hanlon, this was quickly followed by a point from the red hot Dan Ryan. John Gorman then became provider as Dan Ryan scored the 3rd goal to complete the hat trick. Corner back Joe Murphy who was lively all day got forward to get himself on the score sheet 3 times. Pat Moloney then entered the fray for Adrian Mahon and Adrian Bryan replaced Andrew Forde who was injured. During this period Rhode chipped in with a couple of points but Edenderry finished very strong with 3 unanswered points before the final whistle. Dan Nolan was introduced for John Gorman and he was among the scorers.

Final score 4-13 to 1-08. Best for Edenderry were Dan Ryan, Rodge Hanlon, veterans Connell and Mahon were strong however Edenderry supporters will be very impressed by the youngsters Peter O’Neill, Andrew Forde and Aaron O’Connell.
