Junior team beaten in league. Kiltimagh 3-13 Mayo Gaels 0-9

For the second game running a bad start ultimately cost our junior team when they were beaten by Kiltimagh on Saturday evening. The score line is an unfair reflection of their efforts. The started brightly with a good effort by Noel Burke after good work from John Byrne. Kiltimagh hit the next three scores from play. They were also awarded a penalty that was well saved by Cathal Vahey. The referee (who one wonders how he passed the referee fitness test!) ordered it to be taken again due to reasons only known to himself but Cathal repeated the trick and saved the second effort. John Byrne kicked a fine point from play after good work by Derek Vahey. Kiltimagh then hit a purple patch scoring 2-5 without reply to leave them 2-8 to 0-2 ahead. The Gaels finished the half well with two points from John Byrne, one from play and one from a free. The half time score was 2-9 to 0-4 in favour of the home side.

The Gaels battled gamely in the second half and matched Kiltimagh. John Byrne kicked four great frees and Paul McGing added a good score from play. Kiltimagh added their third goal in the final few minutes leaving the final score 3-13 to 0-9.
