Edenderry…….3-14
Ballycumber……1-12

Last Saturday evening Edenderry met Ballycumber in the first match of the Junior ‘A’ Football relegation battle in Ballycommon. After a great performance they ran out winners by eight points on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-12.

Edenderry got off to a great start with two excellent points from Barry Moore. They were followed a great team goal, with Michael Bryan out in front to win the ball, and then passed to Ray Pender, who passed to Barry Moore, who found corner forward Padraig Foy, who sent the ball to the back of the net. Ballycumber then opened their account when they sent a tricky ball towards the Edenderry goals, which ‘keeper Ciaran Cummins tipped over the bar. Barry Moore then scored his third point from a free, which was awarded for a foul on Ray Pender. Ballycumber then scored two points in a row, both from frees to leave that Padraig Foy goal between the sides. Sean Og Farrell then extended Edenderry’s lead with a point, after a good pass from Glen Dolan. Edenderry then grabbed their second goal of the game, when Michael Bryan played a good one-two with Darren Moore, before passing to Barry Moore who blasted the ball past the Ballycumber goalie. Barry Moore was on the scoresheet again, this time he converted a free awarded for a foul on his brother Darren. Ballycumber then scored two excellent points to leave the score at 2-05 to 0-05. Edenderry then scored three points in a row, the first came from Sean Og Farrell, the second came from James Rafferty who rose highest to fist the ball over from a Barry Moore 45’, and the third came from a Glen Dolan free which was awarded for a foul on Barry Moore. Ballycumber then added two more points, before Barry Moore finished the scoring in the first half with a good point.

Halftime, Edenderry 2-09 Ballycumber 0-07.

Edenderry opened the scoring in the second half with a good point from Michael Bryan. Ballycumber then hit three points in a row, before Edenderry introduced none other than the great Tony Kenny into the full forward line. Barry Moore scored a point from a free, before the silver fox rolled back the years, as he collected a pass from Kevin Guing, sent the defender the wrong way with his trademark dummy, before placing the ball past the goalie with ease. Adrian Farrell was then introduced to the action, before Barry Moore hit three points in a row, one from play and two frees. Edenderry then made their final substitution with Lee McDermott coming into the action. Ballycumber then scored an excellent goal, when the corner forward drop-kicked a free to the roof of the Edenderry net. They followed that goal with two points, one from a free, and the other was goal effort which was deflected over by Diarmuid Meleady.

This result gives Edenderry a great chance of surviving the drop to Junior ‘B’ football. The other team in this relegation battle is Shamrocks, and if they defeat Ballycumber, Edenderry will be safe. Edenderry had some great performances from James Mackey, Adrian Bryan, Darren Moore, James Rafferty, Sean Og Farrell, Ray Pender and Barry Moore who kicked an amazing 1-9.
