Juniors win in Killeigh

November 8, 2018

Just two weeks since the dismal draw with Daingean, Edenderry juniors produced arguably their best performance of 2012 on Sunday morning with a seven point win over Killeigh.

Killeigh opened the scoring on three minutes but Jamie Dolan leveled matters in the eight minute with a well taken free after a foul on Mark Hoey.

Dan Ryan put Edenderry in front after eleven minute after some good play from David Farrelly and Colin McNamara. Killeigh regained the lead with two points of their own but Terry Reilly pointed for the Reds in the nineteenth minute after a Mark Hoey assist. The 2011 player of the year John ‘Gooch’ Gorman then gave the Reds the lead in the twentieth minute but Killeigh again pegged them back.

In the twenty third minute corner back Padriag Foy won possession and laid it off to John Gorman who then laid it off to David Farrelly who picked out Dan Ryan with a good pass and Ryan lashed the ball home to the back of the net.

Three minutes later Sean Og Farrell pointed after a quick free from Mark Hoey and in last minute of normal time Dan Ryan pointed his second of the game.

Half time:
Edenderry 1-6 0-4 Killeigh

The opening thirteen minutes of the second half belonged to Edenderry and they had enough done to withstand a late Killeigh surge.

Terry Reilly pointed in the opening minute and this was quickly followed up by a Colin McNamara point. Five minutes later Adrian Farrell hit a boomer of shot from 40 yards and it sailed over the bar. The looked to be all over then as in the ninth and thirteenth minute two goals from Dan Ryan gave Edenderry a fourteen point lead.

Between the nineteenth and twenty fourth minute Killeigh hit three points and in the twenty fifth minute they got a goal. With just two minutes remaining they added another point and goalkeeper Ciaran Cummins was forced to pull off a great save.

Edenderry will be very with this result and some of the football they played was excellent. Fitness took it’s toll late on in the game but with plenty of hard work and training they can improve that aspect of their game.

On the day, the full back line was immense while Colin McNamara was very good at centre back. Mark Hoey caused Killeigh plenty of trouble up front using his size and strength while Dan Ryan showed brilliant composure in front of goal.
