U10 East Cork Hurling League - Bride Rovers V Watergrassill

Bride Rovers played Watergrasshill in the Under 10 East Cork hurling league. These two teams had met earlier in the year in the Decky Guckian League when the Hill had shown their superior strength and maturity to win well.

This game began with the Rovers attacking strongly, and aided by the wind Conleth Ryan opened the scoring with a well taken goal for the Rovers. Eoin Roche followed with a point and Shane O’Flynn, who was having a great game, followed quickly with another goal. Ben Hogan was defending well in goal and he was assisted by Patrick O’Flynn, James Quirke, John O’Sullivan, Beneoin O’Brien Whitmarsh, Brian Roche and Conleth Ryan. Watergrasshill got their opening score of a point and just before half time they scored an opportunistic goal which was to prove vital in the end. At half-time the score board read 2 goals and 1 point to the Rovers to 1 goal and 1 point to Watergrasshill.

The second half saw Watergrasshill attacking with greater intensity and aided by a stiff breeze they quickly notched up a further goal and a point before the Rovers registered their first score, a point, followed quickly by a second point from Adam O’Sullivan. The Hill counteracted with another point and in the dying minutes of the game they scored a further goal to clench a victory by 1 goal.

The forwards of Peter O’Leary, Richard Shanahan, Sean Knox, Ciaran Nugent, Jordan Mannix, Conor Barry and Eoin Roche played with great enthusiasm despite their young age as most of these young lads will be eligible for this age group again next year. Cian Hogan was introduced in the second half and this young, strongly built player cleared many fine balls to save the Rovers in the scond half.
Well done to all the boys and here’s to the second game.
