U10’s play St Finbarrs in Decky Guckian League

On Saturday March 28th, the Under 10 hurlers took on St Finbarrs in round 4 of the Decky Guckian league. It was played under dry but very windy conditions in Rathcormac. The sharp chill factor in the wind made conditions very difficult for the young players.

Nevertheless, the players entered into the game with enthusiasm. Jordan Mannix in goal was putting in a big performance for his first day in this position in this league and he defended very well. St Finbarrs opened the scoring with a point. Bride Rovers played with conviction and this was rewarded by an impressive goal from Peter O’Leary. Conleth Ryan was always at the fore in mid-field and he was fouled when attempting to score. He was awarded a penalty and stepped up to the mark to score a classic goal. This was followed by an opportunistic goal from Ben Hogan.

St Finbarrs introduced Ronan Hennessy and he proved to be a very talented hurler with great pace and he went on to score two goals for St Finbarrs. The city club went on to win the match with a final score of 4-2 to Bride Rovers 3-0. Onwards and upwards we go to face Watergrasshill in Round 5 on Saturday next, in Watergrasshill.

The team on the day was:

Ben Hogan, Ciaran Nugent, John O’Sullivan, Kieran Kearney, Griffin O’Sullivan, Peter O’Leary, James Quirke, Shane O’Flynn, Conleith Ryan, Adam O’Sullivan, Dathail Kent, Conor Barry, Eoin Roche, Jordan Mannix, James Buckley, Beineoin O’Brien Whitmarsh, Shaun Knox, Patrick O’Flynn

Kiltha Og too strong in Feile Hurling

Bride Rovers played Kiltha Og in the 1st round of the Feile Under 14 hurling in Pairc Na Bride on Saturday. This young, Barry Hazelwood trained, side played heroically in the first half trailing by a few points at the interval. In the second half a stronger Kiltha Og side proved too good for us and ran out easy winners. Best for the Rovers were Padraig Noonan in goal, ably assisted at centre back by Tadhg McAuliffe, while Cian O’Connor, Sean Cotter, William Finnegan and Colm Power played great hurling for the Rovers.

Team: Padraig Noonan, Colm Howard, Declan Sheehan, Tadhg Sullivan, Dean Linehan, Tadhg McAuliffe, Shane Walsh, Cian O’Connor, Sean Cotter, William Finnegan, Darren Moore, Cian Howard, Ciaran O’Grady, Sub used: Jake Tobin.

The experience gained in this competition will be a great help to this team in their preparation for the East Cork League and Championship.

Forthcoming fixtures: 8th April U14 hurling league versus Lisgoold at home. 25th April Feile hurling skills competition.
