U10 East Cork Hurling League – Bride Rovers V Carrig na bhFear
Bride Rovers U10 boys played the second football match of the East Cork league against Carrig na bhFear in Rathcormac. The Rovers were missing some of their regular players due to holidays yet this did not daunt their enthusiasm. The mentors Donal Ryan and Donal Roche experimented with the team playing many of them in different positions. Patrick O’Flynn lined out in goal and Ben Hogan moved to the back line. Carrig na bhFear fielded a physically taller and stronger team and entered the fray with determination.
Eoin Roche opened the scoring with a point and followed with a goal for Rovers but not before Carrig na bhFear had featured on the scoreboard with a goal. Eoin added another goal to the tally for the Rovers and this was followed by a goal from Shaun Knox who was to go on and score a hatrick for Rovers despite being only 8 years of age. Richard Shanahan was playing a stalwarts role at centre back and he was ably assisted by Brian Roche, Beneoin O’Brien Whitmarsh and Ben Hogan. Conleth Ryan at right half forward fought with determination for every ball and helped to make many of the Rovers scores.
At half time the score board read Bride Rovers 3-1, to Carrig na bhFear 2-1.
Play resumed in the second half and Eoin Roche and Shane Flynn got points for the Rovers. Adam O’Sullivan moved out field from the back line and this was to prove a fortuitous move for the Rovers as Adam revels at running with the ball and he was to prove a life saver for the Rovers. The Rovers added further goals and Carrig na bhFear added another 3 goals to their tally.
James Quirke and John O’Sullivan defended well in their new positions. Cian Hogan was using his height and strength and catching great balls for the Rovers. Jordan Mannix and Peter O’Leary beavered away in their respective positions which led to a well deserved victory for the Rovers, on a score line of 6-5 for the Rovers to 5-4 for Carrig na bhFear.
