Sympathies.
We offer our sympathies at this time to the extended Lonergan Family Grenepark Dundrum on the recent death of Mary Whelan (nee Lonergan) Gorey Co Wexford and formerly Grenepark and also to the extended Horgan family Cappamurra on the death of Theresa Casey (nee Horgan) London and formerly Cappamurra. Both the Lonergan and Horgan families have been involved in our club for many years and that continues right up to the present day. May Theresa and Mary will rest in peace.

Fun / Sponsored Climb.

The club will have a fun/sponsored climb of Galtymore on Sunday next the 8th of July, Sponsorship cards available from Aidan Slattery on 087-2684066 or any club officer, we ask all club members to help out with this fundraising effort whilst enjoying time with your fellow club members. The details are, all intended participants to be in the GAA Field Car Park in Dundrum at 9.15am, car pooling from there to Lisvernane for 10.00am where our guide will take over and lead us all on our merry way. The good news is that there are two routes going to be used on the day one a little bit less strenuous than the other. Please remember to bring appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions on the day and good walking boots as well as a walking stick or a hiking pole, a bottle of water and a choc bar or two.

Junior (A) Hurling.
Our Junior (A) hurlers had a good win over Cappawhite in Annacarty on Sunday morning last. Straight from the throw in it was obvious that the Cappawhite lads were not fully up for this one and after a tight opening few minutes our lads began to take their scoring opportunities to lead at the break 2-9 to 0-2. It was more of the same  in the second half, though Cappawhite will be disappointed with their display, our lads kept playing to the end and were deserving of their victory on the day. The final score was 4-19 to 0-5.This was a very good performance from the lads and we remain unbeaten in the competition. See match report.

Junior (B) Hurling.
Our Junior (B) hurlers faced Sologhead’s number one team in this competition on Sunday evening last in Sean Treacy Park Tipperary town. This was always going to be a major task for our third team who were missing a few regulars, and from the start the omens did not look at all as the opposition began to build a substantial lead which was 1-9 to 0-3 at half time, all over you would say, but  no one told our lads and with the deadly mix of experience (age) and youth the lads tore into their more vaunted opponents from the restart. We eventually came away with a draw  on the score 3-8 to 1-14 which was great but on another day and perhaps with the rub of the green on a few umpiring decisions we may have very well won on the day. However the draw was sweet enough on the night. Well done to all concerned. See match report.

Minor (A) Huurling.

Our Minor hurlers were beaten by Cashel King Cormac’s in Dundrum on Saturday last on the score 3-8 to 0-8. The lads tried hard and were unfortunate to have a player sent off which turned the tide in Cashel’s favour when the teams were very close on the scoreboard. Check fixtures list for our next game.

KNOCKAVILLA COMMUNITY COUNCIL NOTES;

Upcoming events.
The Community Council hopes to organise a leisure walk towards the end on July. This walk will commence at the Community hall and will take in some areas and points of historical interest around Knockavilla, and an informational talk will be given at these locations. The walk, which will be about 3 miles, will then end up back at the hall where refreshments will be served. A 5 euro participation fee will be collected which will go towards the development work planned in the hall. A similar walk is also planned for the Dundrum area in August. Further details will be available in the next few weeks.

The committee would like to hear from the public, any ideas or activities they would like to be organised in the hall over the winter months, to cater for both adults and children. The Council would be only too happy to provide the hall for any such events or classes which may be required. Please contact any committee member with your suggestions.
