Pride of place this week goes to our Junior B team, West Champions 2010
West Junior(B) hurling final.
Kickhams put in a great display against neighbours Eire Og Annacarty in the West Junior (B) hurling final which was played in Cappawhite on Saturday last. Fielding a team that had a good blend of youth and experience Kickhams started brightly and took the vital scores early on. The halftime score was Kickhams 2-8 (goals from Davy Horgan and Patrick Ryan) to Eire Og O-4. The second half saw Kickhams push home their advantage and emerge victorious on the score 4-17 (goals from Damian Hayes and Patrick Ryan) to Eire Og 1-5. It was interesting to note that of the 4-17 scored by Kickhams, 4-13 came from play. There were joyous scenes as Team Captain Joe Shanahan received the Cup from fellow clubman and West Board Chairman Rogie Kennedy.Team and subs used Thomas Ryan, Joe Shanahan(Capt), Harry Horgan, William Ryan, Cathal Morrissey, Gerry Horgan (0-1), Padraig Morrissey, Eoin Butler, Rory Heffernan, Davy Horgan (1-1), Aidan Butler (0-1), Darren Hayes(0-1), Damian Hayes (1-0), Patrick Ryan (2-7,0-3 frees), Paudie Slattery (0-5),Ger Farrell (0-1) for Damian Hayes, Don Kennedy for Darren Hayes, Noel Ryan for Rory Heffernan, Danny Carberry for Padraig Morrissey , Sean Keogh for Davy Horgan. Though everyone on the team gave of their best for the Kickhams on the day , those that stood out were Patrick Ryan, Paudie Slattery, Harry Horgan, William Ryan, and Gerry Horgan. U/12 Hurling
On Tuesday night the 7th September all roads led to Cappawhite for the under 12 Hurling Shield Final against Lattin/Cullen. Both teams were at full strenght for this keenly contested final with Kickhams accounting for Rosgreen in the Semi Final. The first half was even with the Kickhams leading 4points to 3 at half time. At the start of the second half Kickhams began to exert pressure on the Lattin Goal which paid off with goals coming from Ger Browne and Zach O Halloran and some fine point scoring from out the field. A well deserved victory soon followed for this great under 12 panel who have improved as the year went on.Kickhams captain Ger Browne later accepted the Shield from west board chairman Joe Hammersley. We thank referee Tommy Fitzgerald for his handling of this game and the Cappawhite club for the use of their facilities. Thanks also to the under 12 management of John Mc Cormack,Christy Ryan, Seamie O Halloran and Seamus Furlong for their committement during the year to this group of players. U/16 (A) Hurling West semifinal.
Our U/16 hurlers put up a great display against hot favourites Cashel King Cormacs in the West semifinal played in Golden on Sunday last and lead with only minutes left in the game. However the Cashel lads got the vital scores in the end that saw them safely through. We wish Dean Thompson and Jake O Halloran speedy recoveries from injuries suffered in the game. Match report next week.
Congratulation to Tipperary U21 team on winning our second All-Ireland in six days.
