DUNDRUM INTERNATIONAL DEXTER GATHERING
The Dundrum Dexter Gathering took place under beautiful summer sunshine between the 20th and 22nd of August last. The event was a fantastic success
as the village welcomed visitors from nearly a dozen countries, who came to recognize and celebrate the historic connection between Dundrum and our
native Dexter cattle breed. People travelled from as far afield as South Africa, Namibia, New Zealand and Canada to partake in the festivities and
were amazed by the both warmth of the welcome and the beauty of Dundrum and its surroundings.

The stock show was held on Wednesday in the grounds of Dundrum House Hotel and welcomed its first visitors at 10.00am, 3 hours before its official
start time. There was huge interest in both the native cattle and the rare breeds of horses, ponies and goats that were all represented. In the
stock judging it was great that a number of rosettes were kept in the locality. Special mention must go to James Heffernan from Dundrum for his
Dexter cattle and Emer O’Siochru from Upperchurch for her Kerry Bog Ponies.

The village food fair was held in the historic Main Street of Dundrum on the Wednesday evening and represented the first time that the village
centre was closed to traffic since the famous showjumper Dundrum was at the peak of his powers, some 50 years ago. Let’s hope we won’t have to wait
for another 50 years for it to close again…!!! As well as showcasing the best of Tipperary artisan, organic and craft produce the village also
hosted a series of complementary activities which ensured a real community spirit permeated the evening. Of particular note were the Centra GAA
Hurling Skills Roadshow, the unveiling of a plaque honouring our famous local athelete “Tipperary Tim” Crowe, The Dexter Mile organized by Dundrum
Athletic Club, the Raparee Cycling Club evening cycle, and the unveiling of a plaque in honour of our Dexter cattle breed. The evening was suitably
rounded off by a lively performance from our very own Wig Wam Glam Band.

The organizing committee of Louisa, Kyran, Tom, Michele and Collette would like to thank all those directly and indirectly involved in supporting
the Dexter Gathering and in particular the event sponsors, businesses, voluntary organizations and the local community. They all helped to ensure that this was a memorable few days for the village, our community and especially for all our new overseas visitors and friends. Roll on next year…..!!!

BADMINTON.
You will know we are starting to head for the long dark evenings when you read that Badminton is resuming in the Scout Centre Dundrum from Monday
the 2nd of September. There is no better way to shorten those nights, have a bit of craic and maybe get a little fitter than take up Badminton,
The club nights are Monday and Thursday from 8pm and new members are very welcome and badly needed to ensure the survival of the club.
