Kildare LGFA Ladies U16 Football

November 8, 2018

Both of our U16 teams were in action over the weekend kicking off their respective Spring League campaigns.

Our Div6 girls got their campaign off to the best possible start with a win over a very talented Castlemitchell team. On a morning where the wind and freezing temperatures made playing very difficult, the girls showed a great team spirit from the minute the ball was thrown in right up to the final whistle. The Div6 girls were helped out by a number of U14s who were made to feel part of the squad by the older girls and they made a great contribution to the team. It’s great to see such a strong team spirit across ages within the club.

On Saturday afternoon our Div1 girls showed no less heart but were unsuccessful in their bid to give us two wins from two over the weekend. They hosted St. Laurence’s in a sunny, but deceptively cold Moyglare. With both teams showing a willingness to move the ball the scores were level at half time but the St. Laurence’s girls pulled away in the second half giving them the best possible start to their campaign.

In both cases this was the first opportunity of the year for our girls to play in match conditions on grass pitches so we are looking forward to great improvements across the squad as the weather improves.

Thanks as always to the parents who travelled to support the girls, to Castlemitchell for hosting us, to St Laurence’s for making the trip to Maynooth, our two referees and to the U14 girls who contributed to the Div6 squad.
