Kilmaine beaten by Bellmulet

The intermediate team lost out to Belmulet in Westport this evening and are now out of the championship.

Kilmaine took the lead early in the game with two frees from PaulDoherty, but Belmullet began to win possession and soon evened up thescores. Some hard tackles went in from both sides and a couple ofyellow cards were shown, Belmullet began to break through the Kilmainedefence and got some good points from play. Kilmaine added one morepoint to their scoreline and the first half ended at 0-8 to 0-3 infavour of Bellmullet.

The wind was with Belmullet in the second half and Kilmaine struggledto close the gap. A bad tackle from a Belmullet man ment a straight redfor him and Jaralth McDonagh had to come off by stretcher. A couple ofminutes later on the opposite end Gerard Doherty got a second yellowand the teams were 14 men a piece. It looked like Kilmaine were out ofluck when a they got a goal and a couple of pints to bring them within4 of Belmullet. A penalty was then given to Kilmaine which would havebrought them within 1. Paul Doherty stepped up but a great save fromthe keeper denied him. A collision between Doherty and the belmulletno.11 got Doherty a red card and Kilmaines luck finally ran out.
