Lá Na gClub a great success.

November 8, 2018

What a day!
Last Sunday along with 2000 other GAA clubs all over the country we celebrated La na gClub as part of the 125th Anniversary Celebrations. Every unit of the GAA was asked to mark the special role of the Club in each and every community across the length and breadth of the country. Last Sunday’s activities were not to do with inter- county teams, Croke Park, championships or leagues. No, La na gClub was far more important than any of these, it was all about the grassroots, men and women, boys and girls – the past, present and future of the Gaelic Athletic Association in every parish. Before I can even begin to describe the fantastic occasion we had in Pairc na Bride last Sunday let me pay tribute to the hard work of the sub-committee who organised the event. The Senior, Juvenile, Camogie and Ladies Football clubs all had reps on the sub committee and put in great work for the last few weeks and on Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday evening about five o clock a person approached me in the pitch just to thank everyone for a fantastic afternoon of free entertainment. This was exactly what La na gClub was all about. We decided a few weeks back to put on entertainment for all the family as a kind of way of thanking the local community at large for the support which they give Bride Rovers – not just in the past year but over the 80 years since the Club was founded. Whenever we look for financial support people are very generous so last Sunday was just an opportunity to show the community that Bride Rovers club appreciates the efforts of all concerned.

The scene in the pitch all afternoon was just brilliant, hurling, football, face painting, exhibitions, treasure hunting, balloon art, club shop, skills competitions and lots more. It was the most relaxed and pleasant event ever held at our own venue. Young and old mingled in the pitch and clubroom in a happy and carefree manner. A special word of thanks to those who supplied a virtual mountain of sandwiches, buns, cakes and other tasty edibles. At two o clock there was so much food I had visions of twelve baskets of left-overs but by half five when the crowd were all fed the plates were empty – the generosity of people is truly amazing. Thanks to TVM for the Public Address, to Fermoy Print for Quiz Prizes and to Seamus Buckley for his Lorry. The underage games and skills contests were absolutely brilliant and all played in a great spirit of fun and enjoyment. Thanks to all the mentors and players and parents who made sure that everything worked like clockwork. Yes indeed it was a great day for our own people ,in our own place and we were blessed with the weather, well done to everyone. There was great interest in the display of club photographs and anyone who wants a copy of any particular print please contact any Club Officer.
