Ladies

November 8, 2018

St. Mary’s senior ladies enjoyed a winning start to this year’s campaign against a spirited Muff side. Lousie Doherty was outstanding in attack and was ably supported by Joleen O’ Kane and Stephani Bonar. In what was a tremendous defensive effort the half back line of Aoife Mc Laughlin, Aoife Mc Ginley and Lauren Quinn were particularly strong. In the second half the opportunity was afforded to some of the subs to show what they could do and Caroline Black, Brid Duffy and Dorothy Mc Hugh all acquitted themselves well. The team will hope to build on this result in the season ahead.

Final Score: St. Marys 1 13: Muff 0 2. The next game is at home v Robert Emmets on Wednesday evening. Scorers: Niamh Mailey 0 2, Lauren Guthrie 2 2, Gemma Mc Glinchey 0 2, Stephani Bonar 0 5, Fiona Allan 1 0. Aoife McGinley 0 1, Aoife Mc Laughlin 0 1. Training is on Sunday at 11am. New players welcome.

St. Mary’s first ever minor team took to the field on Friday last against a very experienced and strong Glenties side. Although they were missing some key players the team performed well in their first competitive league game. Aoife Mc Laughlin, Lauren Guthrie and Lauren Quinn were impressive for St. Mary’s. Their next game is away to Ardara on Friday evening.

The under 14’s travelled to Carndonagh on Sunday last for the Feile. They played four masters in the first game and won 0 3 to 0 1 and were narrowly defeated by Fanad in their second game. This left the girls to play St. Eunan’s for a place in the final. However despite a great effort form the girls who were missing some players they were defeated by a stronger side. Well done to Aine Gallagher, Shannon Doherty and Victoria Flanagan who performed well in what was a good team performance. The next game for the girls is on Thursday May 7th away to Glenfin.

The under 16’s next game is on Tuesday 5th May away to Gweedore. Players are asked to meet at the pitch for the bus at 5pm.Training for both teams continues on Saturday morning at 12.15.
