Ladies Football & Camogie Club Notes.

November 8, 2018

On Saturday next the Cork senior ladies footballers play Clare in the Munster final at 5.15 in Castletownroche. As it is in our back door plenty of local support for our two club girls Grace and Eleanor

On Thursday last our u16 girls played Aghada in the league qualifier for the last place in the county from East Cork. We hadn’t played together since April due to exams and the girls were abit despondent going into the game having been beaten by them earlier in the league.Aghada got off to a great start with three points within the first 6 minutes and the writing looked on the wall for our girls. Our girls  plugged away and Jennifer Barry opened the scoring with a great point followed minutes  later with an excellent goal ripping the Aghada defence apart .From then on the Rovers never looked back anchored by the two Jennifer’s at midfield it was a complete team performance with every single player giving a 100 %.Our backs even though under pressure with stood many Aghada attacks .Eadaoin was rock solid in goals .Full back line of Lauren,Shannon and Aine and Margaret when introduced cleared some great ball ,Karen Sheehan played as a sweeper in front and did an excellent job on their danger girl at full forward. Half backs of Jackie our captain, Mary and Claire worked so well moving forward to help the midfields on several occasions. The two Jens at centre field ran themselves to the ground and won the battle all night against Aghadas two strongest players. Our half forwards of Chloe Rebecca (who had been sick all day) and Erin were on fire all three playing their best game ever in a Rovers jersey .Inside Trish (who also had been sick during the week) was a thorn in their side using her height to her advantage fielding great ball and giving great passes to Katie who worked tirelessly throughout and was constantly running into great position for passes and was rewarded with a great point. At half time we led 3gl 5 to 2gl 6 and we felt at that stage that the game was there for the taking. The many spectators that were on the sideline   were given a demonstration of class football and team work in the second half every time one of the girls got the ball she had back up from two other players and their passing was so accurate .It was a sweet victory and hopefully with the hols here now that all the girls will get back training Erin and Mary and the two Jens showed how Junior training has improved their play. Well  done to all 16 girls on the night and great credit to our three u13 girls Aine ,Karen and Margaret for coming only for them we wouldn’t have a team
