Ladies Football & Camogie Club Notes

Briderovers Ladies Football & Camogie Bride Rovers 3-8, St. Vals 1-7

On Sunday last 21st March 2010, saw our Intermediates travel to Kilmurry to take on St. Val’s in 2010 Intermediate League.  These two teams had met in the county final last year in which the first game ended all square and Rovers eventually running out County Champions in 2009.

So a new year and travelling to St. Val’s without some of the regulars due to injury and with new players on board it was Rovers who opened the scoring after some passing from Katie to set Eleanor Ahern up for a well taken point.  This was quickly followed up by newly elected captain Colette Hogan after Sinead Walsh won possession from the kick out.  Martha O’ Donovan & Jennifer Cahill who have joined the Intermediate Ranks this year were very impressive for Rovers. In what was tough weather conditions the girls battled hard for scores and after some great defensive work from Arlene O’ Callaghan saw Elaine Dee reach the back of the net.  Sinead Walsh Grace Kearney and Sinead Walsh added to our tally and as the heavens opened Rovers led at half time on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-4.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Val’s had all the play.  Some fantastic goal keeping by Catriona Vaughan kept the Rovers in the game.  Val’s added 2 points which Grace Kearney replied to with some 2 very well taken scores after some quick passing from our Birthday Veteran Noddy!  Rovers battled hard, and with Val’s getting a lucky goal it was Rovers ran out eventual winners on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-7.

Scorers: Elaine Dee (2-0), Sinead Walsh (1-1), Grace Kearney (0-3), Colette Hogan (0-2), Eleanor Ahern (0-1), Katie Kelleher (0-1).

The club would also like to wish Sinead O’ Driscoll aka Noddy (pictured) a Happy Birthday for last Sunday in what can only be described as the longest celebrated birthday in history!!!!!!

Training continues and if you are interested in playing with the club please contact any club member.

Fermoy  6-15 to 2-5

Our u16 girls played Fermoy  in their fourth game of the league on Thursday last in Fermoy. Unfortunately we were short a lot of players on the day and had only 16 players which makes it very hard considering we have such a young panel. The proof was there that you can’t win matches without training fitness with the older players was a big issue as some of them hadn’t trained since the last match .Jackie our captain getting injured was a big loss at  centre back and loosing Jennifer Barry at half time seemed to have a detrimental effect. We were only two points down at half time and lost complete heart in the second half. I think it’s fair to say over reliance on one or two players won’t win games for you it takes a team effort .Again thanks to all the u14 players who showed up on the day unfortunately in small clubs like ours players have to step up an age to make the numbers. We have two games left against Glanmire and Rockban and hopefully we will see an improvement in individual performances.

Bride Rovers U12 Lions team enjoyed a satisfactory start to their 2010 league campaign when they enjoyed a 6 point win at home to Erins Own. This was tightly contested throughout with the scores being level at half-time, 0-3 each. Our defence were tested on several occasions with Aoife Deasy, Grainne Noonan, Sarah O Flynn, Niamh Murphy and Maria O Sullivan very prominent, while Madison Parle was her usual dependable self in goal. Ellen Twomey and Aoife Howard also had fine games in their first games at the back.  Rovers’ scores came from captain Emma Roche, who showed well at full forward, and one point from Grace Culloty. Rovers enjoyed the benefit of a strong breeze in the second half when they outscored the opposition 2-2 to 0-2. Our scores came from Grace Culloty , who contributed a further 1-1, Laura Quirke with a goal when switched to full-forward and an outstanding point from Aoife Deasy, who was splendid at centre-half back throughout. Shauna O Connell, Selina Cotter, Jessica Howard and Vivienne Cowman worked hard in the forwards as did Laoise Ryan, Rebecca O’ Brien, Taylor Parle, Emily Larkin and Nicola Murphy when introduced.

Match Panel : Madison Parle, Sarah O Flynn, Maria O Sullivan, Ellen Twomey, Aoife Howard, Aoife Deasy, Niamh Murphy, Grainne Noonan, Laura Quirke, Shauna O Connell, Grace Culloty, Vivienne Cowman, Selina Cotter, Emma Roche, Jessica Howard, Laoise Ryan, Rebecca O Brien, Taylor Parle, Emily Larkin, Nicola Murphy.

Saturday, March 21. Ladies Football U14 East Cork League

Bride Rovers 1-8           Midleton 4-13

Bride Rovers U14 girls suffered their first defeat of the 2010 U14 league campaign when they lost disappointingly to Midleton by 14 points. In truth, Rovers were second best to a powerful Midleton side who dominated the game from throw-in and led by 4-7 to 1-4 at half-time aided by a strong breeze. Rovers scores came from Katie Connor (0-3), Maeve Ahern (0-1) and a well-taken goal from Laura Pratt. In fairness, the second half was much closer on the scoreboard but points from Clare Murphy (0-2), Maeve Ahern (0-1) and Dayna Connolly (0-1) were not enough to peg Midleton back.

Match Panel : Madison Parle, Cliona Murphy, Marion Walsh, Dayna Connolly, Margaret Kearney, Ava Merry, Aoife O Riordan, Lauren Friel, Clare Murphy, Karen Sheehan, Maeve Ahern , Patricia O Sullivan, Meg Kelliher, Aine Cashman, Katie O Connor. Laura Pratt, Elaine Culloty, Grainne Noonan, Sarah O Flynn, Aoife Howard.
