Ladies Football Report

GAA Club AGM: 28th October, 2001.

Ladies Football was revived in Ballinrobe in 2001. We fielded an U14 team in the Mayo League and also participated in the U14 Feile Blitz. The season was a major success in that we:

  • Fielded in all games
  • Defeated Louisburgh and Breaffy in the league
  • Defeated Hollymount in the U14 blitz
  • Introduced girls in the parish to football

I would like to thank all who helped with the promotion of the game during the year: players, parents, club officials and members.

Next year, we plan to field teams at U12, U14 and U16 grade, and also to do some fund-raising to offset the burden on the club of having ladies football. A particular thanks to the club for supplying footballs and paying for buses during the year.

In the year gone by, the workload was not too large as we only had one team. Next year, with two extra teams, we will have a larger workload and I would like if this meeting could give some moments to discussing names of people who may be willing to help out. It is a very enjoyable age-group to work with and it is heartening to see players improve and also to see girls wearing the Ballinrobe jersey after an absence of a few years.
