Cork Retain Aisling Mc Ging Cup

On Saturday last in Semple StadiumThurles Cork retained the Aisling Mc Ging Cup for the third time in sucession defeating Dublin on  a scoreline of 3-11 to 6 pts.
For the small crowd in attendance this didn’t turn out to be the thriller that we had expected .Even though Cork   had a lot of missed opportunities in  the first half  they still had the edge on Dublin in all areas of the pitch and at the half time interval were  ahead 1-4 to 4 pts. From the restart Cork seemed to up the pace and the quick ball played into the forwards changed the game completely with  Cork pulling away from their opponents very earlier in the second half .Dublin only managed to score 2 pts in the entire second half and they came in the 60th and 62nd minute. Cork on the other hand scored 2gls 7 pts in the second half.

Congratulations to our two club players Eleanor and Grace who were superb on the day both putting their names on the scoreboard and were involved in many of the other scores as well .Eleanor lined out in the number 10 jersey and Grace in the number 13 and the two girls combined on several occasions before laying the ball off to their former Loreto team mate Katie Sheehan from Glenworth who was full forward on the day and who was player of the match. It was a great result for the two girls who have put so much into club and county football in the last number of years and have experienced the highs and lows that go with it but yesterday was a high for the girls their first adult All-Ireland medal and hopefully the first of many.

Congratulations to Grace and Eleanor and to all the girls and the management team and especially our own Kathleen Kearney who was a selector .As the captain Verona said behind every good man is a good woman but on this occasions behind four good men was one good women and the esteem Kathleen is held with these girls was obvious in the captains speech. The girls had a meal in the horse & Jockey after the match and then stopped in Rathcormac Inn to watch the Senior a match on TV. Our thanks to Arthur and the staff of  the Rathcormac Inn for the hospitality they showed the girls providing finger food at very short notice and filling the cup as well. The girls were delighted with the welcome they got.Congrats again Grace Eleanor and Kathleen from the entire club and while you can now take a well deserved rest from the intercounty scene unfortunately club commitments will keep you busy for another while yet.

Our u14 team had a comprehensive win over Aghada in the u14 East Cork League semi final on Tuesday week last in Aghada .Missing some of our regular players the girls played some great football the key factor been the excellent marking by Lauren and Trish on Aghadas key player Hannah Looney.
It was a superb team performance on the night and the weather made playing conditions tough at times .The final  score was 4-7 to 2-5 .scorers Chloe 1-4 Jennifer 1-1 Trish 1-1 Meg 1-0 Katie 0-1. We now play Carrigtwohill in the final in September.
