LOCAL MAN OPENS OWN LANDSCAPING BUSINESS
Congratulations to Ronan Nally, Mayo Abbey on starting up his own landscaping business “Fuchsia Landscapes”. His policy of a hands-on approach is proving very popular and well as catering for all sizes of jobs (even the small front garden), in gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping and consultation service.
After finishing in Balla secondary school Ronan went to the Salesian College of Horticulture, Warrenstown, Co. Meath. In his final year there he taught first year students.  Among the gardening experts to come out of this college is Gerry Daly of TV fame. Ronan also holds a  FETAC National Diploma in Horticulture.  Graduating in February 2003 he has gained experience with Horkans, Heneghans and Shaws before moving to the exclusive Castleknock golf club, Dublin for a year. His last position before going out on his own was as landscaping foreman here for the British company, Greenleaf Contract Services.  This company works for local authorities and for Hospital Trust of Britain, it is now concentrating on the British mainland. Two very good examples of the work he has been involved in are, Castlebar fire station and Westport Woods Hotel.  Based in Mayo Abbey, Ronan can be contacted at 087 75 90 677.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT SOCIAL EVENING
The recent social evening organised by Mayo Abbey active Retirement was a great success. The evening started at 8-00p.m. with refreshments on arrival followed by music by local one-man band Martin McMahon Groups from Louisburgh, Kilmovee, Taugheen and Ballyglass attended.  The night was so enjoyable that the music played until almost 11-30. The socials will resume again in the autumn. The organisers would like to see more local participation and stress that you don’t have to be over 55 to take part.
