Lorrha GAA News for 18 August

November 8, 2018

Senior: Our senior hurlers fell to a seven point defeat to Holycross/Ballycahill in round 2 of the Seamus O Riain Cup in Dolla on Sunday, 3-23 to 4-13.

Lorrha got off to a blistering start with goals from Noel Hogan, Chris Fogarty and Brian Hogan inside sixteen minutes to lead by seven point at one stage but still trailed by three at half time, 2-13 to 3-7. Lorrha kept in touch for most of the second half but a third Holycross goal left us too much to do with a late Brian Hogan goal a consolation.

Lorrha still have one game left against Ballina but cannot make the knockout stages.

Under 21: Lorrha have an outstanding North U21 'B' hurling championship first round game against Shannon Rovers which is likely to be played in the coming weeks.

Minor: The Lorrha Rovers minor hurlers suffered their first loss in the championship last Wednesday when they went down 0-15 to 0-11 to Kiladangan in Cloughjordan.

In their final game of the group stage, Lorrha Rovers play Roscrea in Cloughjordan on Thursday 16th August at 7.00pm which will determine what position they will be in on the table going into the semi-finals.

Under 16: The under 16's played Kilruane MacDonaghs last Monday week in their third game of the 'A' championship and won 2-22 to 5-5. Last Monday, they played Ballina in Moatfield and lost narrowly 2-19 to 3-15. Regardless the team have progressed to a quarter final on Monday 27th August against Toomevara.

Under 14: Lorrha won their final group game in the 'B' hurling championship against Burgess in Moatfield on Tuesday 4-9 to 4-6 which puts them straight into the semi-final against Newport in Newport on Wednesday 29th August at 7.00pm

Under 12: The much awaited North U12 'A' hurling final was postponed last Sunday because of a tragedy in the Borris-Ileigh club and we sympathise with them on their loss.

The game has been refixed for this Thursday 16th August in Toomevara at 7.30pm and we urge a big Lorrha support to head along.

Tipperary: Well done to the Tipperary Under 21 Hurlers in the All Ireland semi-final against Galway.
