Lorrha GAA News for 18 July

Golf Classic: A total of 33 teams took part in our Golf Classic in Birr Golf Club last Friday. While the rain fell for a period, generally conditions were quite good and thanks to all for taking part as well as Birr Golf Club for their superb course and fine facilities.
Thanks also to all our sponsors, especially in these tough economic times who once again supported our event so generously. Thanks also to Michael Liffey for his Trojan work in organising the event plus also to Mary Brady for here help on the day. The results were: 1st. 100points – P.J. Starr / Pat Flanagan / T.J. O’Callaghan / Liam Horan; 2nd. 95 points – Darran Gleeson / Darragh Egan / Damien Ryan / Mike Moloney; 3rd. 94 points – Pascal Moran / Ina Moran / Barry Moran / Martin Kennedy
Mens Longest Drive: Sean McEntee; Mens Nearest to pin: Brian Guinan; Ladies Longest drive: Maura Flannery; Ladies Nearest to pin: Ena Moran

Senior: Our seniors are back in action this Sunday in the first round of the Seamus O’Riain Cup. Cashel King Cormacs are our opponents in Templemore at 7pm. This competition is knockout and a win would take us to the quarter finals. Best of Luck to the team and mentors.

Junior: Our Juniors lost to Silvermines in our final group game on Saturday. Thanks to the management and players for their efforts in what has been a difficult year.

U21: Our North Quarter Final against Kildangan could take place in the next couple of weeks. All players are to continue to attend training in case of any eventuality.

Minor: The Minors take on Templederry in the second round of the championship in Moatfield on Thursday (tomorrow) at 8pm.

U16: The Under 16’s got their championship off to a superb start on Friday last with a 3-15 to 0-6 win over Portroe. They are next in action next Monday evening against either Borrisokane or Moneygall. Check Bord na nOg fixtures for opponent.

U14: The Under 14’s were defeated by Burgess in their latest game last Thursday night by 5-10 to 4-7. They have two games remaining against Borris-Ileigh and Ballina.

U12: The Under 12’s were beaten by Ballinahinch in Shallee on Friday evening last.

VHI Cul Camps: The Lorrha GAA VHI Cul Camp begins next Monday, 20 July for five days. Hopefully the weather will be kind and our future players will benefit from the expert coaching.

Munster Final: Congratulations to Patrick Maher and the Tipperary senior team on their Munster Final success. Best of luck to Patrick, Kevin and Ken Hogan in this evenings Munster Under 21 semi-final.

Courses: Last year, the club purchased a defibrillator for use in emergency situations and anyone interested in taking part in a course on how to use it can contact William Harding on 086-8062341. Anyone interested in taking a physio/masseurs course can also call William Harding for further details.

Lotto: All lotto draws take place in the GAA Clubhouse on Monday night. The draw takes place at 10pm and all are welcome to attend. Thank you for your continued support.

Old Time Dancing: Old Time Dancing resumes on Friday night to the music of Midnight Melodies. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.
