Lorrha GAA News for 19 March

Senior: Our senior hurlers suffered a disappointing 1-25 to 0-16 loss to Moyne-Templetuohy in the opening round of the Challenge Cup at Moatfield on Sunday.

In the second round, Lorrha will play Ballina in Moatfield this Sunday, 20th March at 12 noon.

Junior B: Lorrha will begin the Junior 'B' Hurling League campaign away to Kiladangan. Also in the group are Nenagh Eire Og, Ballinahinch and Roscrea with the group winner progressing to the semi-final.

In the championship, Lorrha have been drawn in a group with Moneygall, Shannon Rovers, Templederry and Nenagh Eire Og with the top three progressing to the knockout stages.

Under 21: Lorrha have been drawn in a group with Ballinahinch/Templederry, Borrisokane and Portroe in the U21 'B' Championship which will be played in the autumn.

Minor: In the Minor 'B' Hurling Championship, Lorrha Rovers will host Silvermines in their first game with games to follow against Burgess, Ballinahinch/Templederry, Portroe, Ballina and Borrisokane with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals.

In the Minor 'B' Football Championship which will begin on 23 March, Lorrha Rovers will be away to Ballinahinch/Templederry, home to Ballina and will also play Borrisokane (TBD)

Under 16: The Under 16 'A' Football Championship will get underway this Saturday when Lorrha Rovers face Nenagh Eire Og in Nenagh at 4pm

Under 12: The U12's got their football championship campaign off to a great start last Saturday with a 2-1 to 1-2 win over Kilruane MacDonaghs on Saturday. Next Saturday, they host Moneygall in Moatfield at 2pm

Medal Presentation: The Junior 'B' hurlers who won the North League in 2014 and 2015 will be presented with their medals in the GAA Centre on Saturday, 19th March at 9.30pm. More information next week.

Membership: for 2016 is now due. Rates were also confirmed with all inclusive of Gym membership: €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership for 12 months); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).

Closing date is 31st March. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then. 1916 Commemoration Day: Lorrha GAA Club in association with Lorrha & Dorrha Historical Society are hosting a 1916 Commemoration Day and celebration of local heritage in the GAA Centre, Moatfield on Easter Sunday, 27th March at 3pm.

All are invited to attend events which include a celebration of Lorrha GAA and a reenactment of hurling from the 1916 era which promises to be an exciting event as the parish is split into four mixed teams which will battle for their townland. This will be followed by a reading of the proclamation of independence and raising of the tri-colour by schoolchildren from Lorrha, Rathcabbin and Redwood National Schools.

These activities will be followed by refreshments in the Clubhouse and traditional music from local band Tradstone and guest musicians. There will also be prizes for the best adult and child outfit as everyone is urged to dress in the style of 1916.

Lorrha CountryFest 2016: Tickets (€20) are available from Kevin Molloy (0876738986) for this years Country Music Festival at Moatfield which takes place on Sunday, 17th July from 12 noon to 7pm. Line-up includes Mike Denver, Robert Mizzell, Louise Morrissey, The Conquerors, Johnny Brady, Pete Kennedy, Sean Slattery & The Connections as well as local band Tradstone. A day not to be missed!
