Lorrha GAA News for 28 May

Senior: The senior hurlers bowed out of the Challenge Cup at the quarter final stage of the James Holohan Cup on Friday evening following a disappointing performance in losing 2-16 to 1-12 to Clonakenny in Clonakenny.

Lorrha will face Roscrea in the first round of the North Championship in Cloughjordan on Sunday 5th June at 7pm where a win is a must to prolong our year and progress to the quarter finals.

Junior: The Juniors are still in the hunt for a league semi-final and are awaiting the result of the final group game between Kiladangan and Portroe.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels will play in the 'A' Hurling Championship which gets underway on 4th July away to Nenagh Eire Og. The team will also play Borris-Ileigh, Silvermines, Roscrea, Kilruane MacDonaghs, Kiladangan and Toomevara.

Under 14: Hard luck to Lorrha Rovers Gaels footballers who lost the North 'B' final, 3-8 to 2-6 to Ballinahinch/Templederry in Puckane last Thursday evening.

The Hurling Championship gets underway this evening (Wednesday) against Moneygall/Clonakenny in Moneygall. The team will also play Newport, Burgess, Portroe, Borrisokane, Ballinahinch/Templederry, Borris-Ileigh and Roscrea 'B'.

Under 12: The Hurling Championship gets underway next Monday 30th May when Lorrha play Shannon Rovers in Ballinderry at 6.30pm. Lorrha are also grouped with Ballinahinch, Toomevara 'B' and Ballina 'B'.

Feile na nGael: Lorrha and Shannon Rovers Gaels will be hosting players and officials from Clooney Gaels in Antrim as part of Feile na nGael which is being held in Tipperary & Waterford from June 17th-19th. This is a huge honour to welcome hurling folk from another part of the country and we look forward to showing them the best of the area that weekend.

Tipperary: Well done to Patrick Maher and John Madden in Tipperary's Munster Senior Championship win over Cork wile Brian Hogan was in goals for the Intermediates, and scored a penalty, in their win over the rebels on Sunday also. Both teams progress to face Limerick in Thurles on Sunday 19th June.

The 2016-2017 draw will get underway next Friday night and if you want to join, contact any club officer. Tickets are €100 for an excellent prize fund of €500,000 with 12 monthly draws.

Lorrha CountryFest 2016: The launch night for Lorrha CountryFest 2016 will be held in the GAA Centre on Wednesday, 8th June at 8pm. All are welcome to attend to meet some of the artists who will be performing on the day and to help make the event a success not just for the club but for the local community as we aim to get thousands of people into the area on the day.

Tickets are on sale for Lorrha CountryFest on Sunday, 17th July from 12 noon to 7pm. Line-up includes Mike Denver, Robert Mizzell, Louise Morrissey, The Conquerors, Johnny Brady, Pete Kennedy, Sean Slattery & The Connections as well as local band Tradstone and local artist Brendan Liffey.
