LUCAN SARSFIELDS’ CLUB NOTES JANUARY 01st 2014

November 8, 2018

Happy New Year to all our players, members, supporters, sponsors and friends. We hope your 2014 season will be a successful one!
Many thanks to everyone who supported our Christmas Draw, it was a huge success and anyone who has not yet collected their prize can do so from the bar any evening after 7pm.

Congrats to Emma Flanagan and Orla Beagan on receiving Dub Star award. They played against the Dublin Senior panel which includes four Lucan girls, Ali Twomey, Kate Whyte, Mairi Moynihan and Claire Rigney on Sat 28th.

A superb display of open and running football by our U10 footballers left them disappointed with runner up spot in the Humphrey Cup Final in the Iveagh Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

The lads didn’t disappoint in the semi-final with a slick victory on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-3 over our hosts St. James’ Gaels Paraic Lackey and Sean Quigley ensured Lucan were ahead at the turn. Following a lively patch by the Gael’s there was an excellent save by Adam Gilmore.
The Lucan boys kept pushing hard to the finish and a number of excellent points were taken by Samuel Keogh and Sam Noctor.
In the final Parnell’s got off to a flyer taking the opening score but Lucan soon got on top with excellent points from Adam Whyte, Jack Lawlor, Morgan McGowren and Jack o’Donnell.

This was followed by swift interplay between Tony Mulqueen, Ciaran Scully and Conor Hannon which led to another Whyte point leaving Lucan 8-2 up at halftime.

The ‘Nell’s new they were up against it and fought back with 2 unanswered goals. But the Lucan Lads were not to be out done and replied with 2 goals of their own.

The ‘Nell’s went for broke and courageous blocks from Neil o’Leary and Sean Harkness kept them out.

Lucan then went 5 points up but Parnells fought back to draw level with 2 minutes to go. Lucan regained possession and secured an excellent point from Sam Noctor from play. From the kick out Parenells worked the ball into the scoring zone and scored the equaliser with the last kick of normal time.

Extra time of 5 minutes a aside proved a hurdle to far for Lucan ending up in the runners up position on a scoreline of 2-13 to 6-8.
A superb effort from this team with many neutrals impressed with the brand of football and excellent Teamwork.

There are many great days to come for this Team and the rest of the 2003 panel. Well done on the work done so far, a credit to your families, mentors and club!
There was no winner of Sunday night’s €2,000 Lotto. The unlucky numbers were 9,10,20,26. This weeks lotto is for a jackpot of €2,000 and O’Grady Hearing Services will be our sponsor.
