Two of our Under 9 football teams entertained Westmanstown Gaels on the AWP at the 12th Lock on Saturday morning last. Conditions were bright and fresh and ideal for good football. Lucan Sarsfields 1 playing a wonderful mixed game of long and short passing, coupled with some great forward play by Patrick Ryan ran out convincing winners in the end. Best for team 1 were Lee Murphy in goals, Daragh Lyons was a tower of strength at full back and was well supported by Sean Teehan and Sean McGowan. At centre field Cormac Coffey and Adam Banim were dominant throughout. Up front MVP was Patrick Ryan at full forward and he was ably assisted by Dara Walsh and Conor Smullen. Team 2 also ran out comfortable winners and had super performers in Cathal Kennedy, Adam Burns and Daniel Kane. They were well supported by Oran Fitton, Callum Conway, Ellis O’Dallaigh, Sean Corry, Conor Greally and Oisin O’Connor.

Lucan’s U13A Camogie girls made it two league wins from two against a battling Good Counsel team.

The girls played with wonderful skill, style and passion on a wet, windy and bitterly cold day.

After playing against the elements in the first half the girls went in at half time ahead on a score 4-00 to 2-01. Despite the best efforts of the physically stronger Good Counsel girls our girls built on their lead in the second half to finish the match on a score 9- 03 to 2-02.

As always a word of appreciation to all the parents for their continued support and encouragement.

Team: Aisling Gray, Aoife Byrne, Heather Kenny, Ciara McDonagh, Chloe O’ Connor, Hannah Brady, Caoimhe Morris, Aoife Mahon, Siofra Byrne, Laura Quinn, Laura Lawless, Carla Delmar, Aoife Coffey, Ciara Crosbie, Rachel Feighery, Maria Crowley, Willow Byrne.

Today lucan sarsfields u15c made history, in that for the first time in the clubs history we fielded an u15c team. We travelled to Wild Geese in Oldtown, North County Dublin. The team was made up of 6 Under 15s and 7 under 14B and 2 14A's. Lucan got the first score but wild Geese rallied with two goals and continued to pressurise our back line Aaron King and Anthony McNulty and Sam McCarthy who fought well in clearing their lines on numerous occasions. The weather worsened which made conditions difficult for the players on an already heavy pitch, however we managed to go in at half time 2 points up. Lucan continued to drive on and dominated in the second half even though we were playing uphill and against the breeze. We switched Eoin Gormley into Goals to allow Thomas Heffernan outfield. Eoin pulled of a super save and did well in goals for the second half. David Kavanagh and Cillian gave a great display and deserve joint man of the match for both their outstanding performances. Oran Tully, Oisin O'Brien and Shaun Keegan (captain) did a lot of clearing up and frustrated Wild Geese in their efforts to come back at us. As the game progressed our forwards grew in confidence and their passing and accuracy improved moving the ball with ease form player to player. In fairness all 15 players contributed throughout the game.

Lucan 4-9 to Wild Geese 2-1was the final score. Cilian McDonald 0-4.  Jack Andrews 2-2. Michael Doyle 0-2. Liam Byrne 1-0. Kyle 1-1.

Saturday the 1st March and first game of the year for Lucan's U13 Ladies Football team out in Division 1, a first for the club. Opposition came from Foxrock/Cabinteely, the game being moved to Lucan after DL Co Co closed Kilbogget Park.

Jennifer Glynn started in Goal, Isobella Fay, Katie Wisdom and Aoife Doyle at the back. Molly O'Tool, Laura Lawless and Sarah Robinson half back. Emma Fallon and Zara Lawless in the middle with Ada Bowler, Laura Quinn, and Niamh stokes half forward. Full forward were Sara Cramp, Maria Crowley and Aisling Grey. Subs to start were Meave Montgomery, Hannah Morgan, Eva Dunne, Kate Wilson and Anna Cuffe. Missing today were Jennifer Ward, Cloda NiChonaighle, Abbie Green present sporting a broken finger, and Aoife Brophy out with a broken arm after last weeks challenge match.

Foxrock opened with a goal which Laura immediately countered, Ada pointed before Foxrock got another goal. Maria found the net after a period of wides from both sides. Foxrock finished the half with another goal leaving it Lucan 2:01 Foxrock/Cabinteely 3:00.

A few changes at the break setup a period of dominance for Lucan. Goals from Ada and Laura, points from Emma, Laura, Sarah and Zara followed by a goal from Emma left it 5:06 to 3:00 before Foxrock scored another goal keeping themselves in touch. More goals from Ada and Hannah left it 7:06 to 4:00. Lucan should have closed out this game but instead let Foxrock back in scoring four goals and three points unanswered. Foxrock will definitely be happy to take away a draw with a final score of 7:06 to 8:03. Sarah Robinson picked up the MaltEaster for her impressive performance.

Overall this was our first game, against superb opposition, with an exceptionally high standard of football on display from both sides. Allot of learning to take away from this but very proud mentors.

Our other three Under 9 teams played away to Ballinteer St Johns at the Ballinteer Community School AWP at 11.30. All 3 teams won after good battles which topped off a super morning of results for the U 9’s. Best for the Lucan away teams were Liam Brennan, Darragh Meehan, Eoin Conheady, Ben Armstrong, Dylan Hynes and Dillon Ryan. They were well supported by all the other Lucan players who made the trip to Ballinteer that morning. Thanks to the parents for travelling.
